We're a community of students, adults, and clergy who believe every high school student deserves a weekend that reminds them they are deeply loved.
The Journey began with a simple conviction: that high school students need a space where they can encounter God, ask real questions, and feel genuinely known. What started as a small gathering of students from First Church of the Nazarene in Galesburg, IL has grown into a retreat ministry that touches lives across the region.
Over the years, hundreds of students have walked through a Journey weekend and walked out changed — not because of any program or formula, but because of authentic community and the steady presence of God's love.
Today, we host four retreat weekends every year — two in spring, two in fall — welcoming students from Galesburg and surrounding communities who are curious about faith, community, and what it means to be known.
See Upcoming RetreatsThe Journey exists to convey the love, mercy, and grace God has for every person — one weekend at a time. We believe that when students experience genuine community and hear the message of God's unconditional love, lives are changed.
Our retreat format is built around talks delivered by youth, adults, and clergy who speak honestly about faith, doubt, belonging, and grace. Combined with group activities, free time, and small group conversations, the weekend creates space for something real to happen.
We welcome all high school students ages 14–19, regardless of their background or faith experience. You don't need to have it figured out. You just need to show up.
Everything we do flows from a handful of core convictions.
No student is too far, too lost, or too broken. A Journey weekend is for everyone — the lifelong churchgoer and the student who's never stepped inside one.
We don't pretend. Our speakers share real stories of doubt, struggle, and grace. We believe honesty opens more doors than polish ever could.
The friendships formed on a Journey weekend often outlast the retreat itself. We invest in building community because we believe people need people.
Everything we do — every talk, every activity, every late-night conversation — is oriented around one message: you are loved beyond measure.
The Journey is made possible by a dedicated team of volunteers who give their time and hearts to make each weekend unforgettable.
